    Competition Scoring

Difficulty of Flair Moves – 50 Points Competitors will display their best flair moves to earn points in this category. Please note that points will not be earned for high risk and complex moves unless they are completed and landed without drops. Be sure to stay within your comfort zone. Hit your best new difficult moves to score well. There will be NO working flair requirement.

Variety of Flair Moves, Styles & Objects – 25 points Competitors are encouraged to use both hands and in different combinations and speeds. The use of variety of objects while performing will score well. Bottles, shakers, glassware, strainers and anything else that is not bolted down should be used to earn points in this category. Competitors should attempt to incorporate as many styles as possible into their routine. As well, competitors may repeat moves, but will not earn more points for them.

Smoothness of Motion & Control – 25 points In this category, judges should be able to follow the flow and method in creating the drinks. Judges will be watching for fluid motion, transitions between and sequencing of flair moves and pours. As well, the competitors must appear to be in control. Judges will also be looking for the ability to “nail” every move on every attempt as well as any drops that might interrupt the routine.

Balance of Routine – 25 points The competitor will need to balance how they present their skills in order to score well in this category. Ideally, each flair sequence or style performed will be balanced, with no long, dominant segments in the routine. The bartender should be able to blend their drink making into their flair moves and allow themselves enough time to complete the recipes properly. A bartender who scrambles at the end of their routine to finish the required drinks would not be demonstrating good balance.

Overall Entertainment – 50 points The competitors will be awarded points for the complete package presented during their routine. They will be judged on the creative effort that went into their routines. Interaction with the music for the routine is very important to
score well. The styling and overall appearance of everything seen on stage will be judged. Competitors should attempt new and exciting ways to entertain.

Presence & Composure – 25 points Bartenders will be judged on their personality, professionalism, charisma and composure behind the bar. Is the competitor having fun while trying to impress the crowd and pull them into their show? This category will also include how the bartender deals with drops, spills or other uncertainties that may occur during their show. If competitors are comfortable and obviously having fun, this will help increase the points for this category.

    Technical Merit & Accuracy
Deductions Judges will be looking for variety of different mistakes: spilling while pouring, drops, breaks, and sprays or tails while bottles are in the air. Garnishes, straws, ice, towels, etc. will not have points deducted. There is no limit to the amount of points you can lose in this category.

Spillage Judges will deduct (1) point for every significant incidence of spillage with no limit. Spillage deductions will include “missed targets”, bad cuts, knocked over drinks, overfilled drinks, trails and/or tails of water coming out of the bottles. Dribbles, dots, and spots, do not count as spills, only significant spills that can be clearly seen.

Drops Judges will deduct (2) points for every drop with no limit. Any object being flaired will count toward deductions if it falls to the ground or hits the bar in an uncontrolled manner (exceptions noted above). Fumbles or saves are not considered drops but they do affect the marking in the Smoothness of Motion and Control section. Each bar object dropped will have its own deduction, unless the objects are embedded in each other to make one object (examples: two tins firmly nested in each other firmly is one drop. A tin and shaker glass firmly stuck together is one drop). You will not be double penalized for a drop and a spill.

Breakage Judges will deduct (5) points for every break of an object that was in the bartender’s control. You will only be deducted for the break and will not be hit for the spill or the drop. Incidental breakage will also result in a deduction of (2) points per occurrence.

Drink Deductions (5) Points will be deducted for each of the following reason with each drink made. - Improper or missing ingredient

    (25) Points will be deducted for each of the following reasons for each drink made: - Un-servable, missing or incomplete drink (for example, drink is not finished, missing two or more ingredients or has something else
wrong with it that would prevent it from being served to a guest) - Unsanitary procedure (for example, straining done with hand or ice scooped with hand or glass)
