Ready or not here they come…the 80’s are back for the Autumn/Winter collections of 2009. Complete with luxurious fabrics and glamorous metallics this season is showcasing lots of leather, bold animal prints, and neon colors that pop. Look out PETA, this season was not designed with you in mind. Get the spray cans ready. Balmain to DSquared2, Gucci to Betsy Johnson and everyone in between, designers are giving us an 80’s comeback trend that screams Rock Glam and luxury in excess. This may seem contradictory in the midst of our struggling economy.Another contradiction, only because it is normally congruent with Spring/Summer collections, are bright bold neon colors for this Autumn/Winter! These head turning hues are plentiful on the catwalk right now. Complimenting those bright colors is lots and lots of leather. Leather biker jackets are most definately “in” right now. Biker jackets can be paired with the one MUST HAVE piece of 2009, which is a pair of full length over-the-knee boots. Nearly every designer who showcased at fashion week this year incorporated the over-the-knee boot into their collection. This year it’s all about statement shoulders. From the modern toga style one shoulder dresses and tops to what appears to be oversized shoulder pads. A closer look reveals futuristic structure that gives the illusion of shoulder pads without actually using them. Also, we’re seeing a lot of metallics in bronze, silver, and gold. The hairstyles this season reflect the runway by reinventing 80’s glam. The bigger the better, but don’t you dare be caught dead with a bump in it ladies. We’re using good old fashioned back combing. Paying homage to another excessive decade, we’re seeing big flowing curls a la the 1970’s. On the other end of the spectrum we’re seeing sleek shiny slicked back pony tails and after shower minimalist hair. Bangs are back with an abundance of fringe. Turning our attention to hair color trends, color emulates nature this year with lots of coppers, deep reds, auburns, gold’s, and rich chocolate browns.Whether you can handle it or not, the 80’s are back and ready to rock.
