It was a night of precision and clarity emanating from the Stir Cove stage that brought heat and joy to the souls of the crowd. This was The Black Crowes at their very finest. Having seen them numerous times, this was the very best performance I have ever witnessed.
Coming to the Midwest straight from the music festival, Wakarusa, Chris Robinson and his band mates were nothing short of fantastic. The vocals were pitch-perfect, the harmonies cohesive, and the jams were outstanding. For over 90 minutes it was non-stop rock and the crowd could not have been more appreciative. When the Crowes are ‘on’, you can’t sit still, and we didn’t. We moved, we sang, and we were bedazzled by the music. We got all our expected hits, but there was an 18 minute jam that left us speechless.
The Crowes lineup has seen some turnover through the years, but the mainstay, and the heart of this group has always been Chris Robinson and his brother, Rich. Regardless of the musicians that support them, the Robinson boys are what keep the Crowes strong and in demand. A little bit of blues, a whole lot of jam and some kickin’ rock and roll. It was just the perfect night.
I think there is something magical that happens when artists hit the Stir Cove stage. Suddenly, they are giving the best performance of their tour, and if you are lucky enough to be in the crowd, you’ll know it.
